Silver Scroll Foil: Japanese Mystical Archive Proxies

Fifth in our series on exclusive foil treatments. When the original Strixhaven: School of Mages set released in 2021, its Mystical Archive bonus sheet — dozens of iconic instants and sorceries from Magic's history, reprinted with new art — became one of the most beloved bonus sheets Wizards had ever made. Secrets of Strixhaven, released April 24, 2026, brought the idea back with a brand-new sixty-five-card Archive of its own. And once again, the Japanese-language versions got their own treatment: a completely redrawn frame and artwork inspired by traditional Japanese illustration, with a shimmering premium finish reserved for the Japanese Mystical Archive line — Silver Scroll Foil.

This article covers only that Japanese alternate-art Mystical Archive line. All twenty-three cards we carry with it are sorted by colour so a list this long stays easy to scan.

What Makes It Different

Silver Scroll Foil isn't just a foil version of a card you already know — the whole card underneath it is redrawn. Japanese Mystical Archive cards get their own frame and their own artwork from the ground up, and Silver Scroll Foil lays a bright, metallic silver shimmer over that new art. Getting there took plenty of trial and error on our end — testing different materials and different combinations of them before the shimmer and the pattern actually matched the original, instead of just looking close enough in a photo. That is the part we paid the most attention to on every card below, so look closely at how the foil behaves in each one, not just the artwork itself.

All 23, Sorted by Colour

White

Angel's Grace MTG proxy card

Angel's Grace
Split second. Until end of turn, you can't lose the game, your opponents can't win, and damage that would drop you below 1 life leaves you at 1 instead.

Armageddon MTG proxy card

Armageddon
Destroy all lands. As direct as Magic gets.

Winds of Abandon MTG proxy card

Winds of Abandon
Exile target creature you don't control, then its controller searches for a basic land. Overload to exile every creature you don't control instead.

Akroma's Will MTG proxy card

Akroma's Will
Choose one, or both if you control a commander: your creatures gain flying, vigilance and double strike, or they gain lifelink, indestructible and protection from each colour until end of turn.

Blue

Spell Pierce MTG proxy card

Spell Pierce
Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays {2}.

Preordain MTG proxy card

Preordain
Scry 2, then draw a card. The gold standard of one-mana cantrips.

Brain Freeze MTG proxy card

Brain Freeze
Target player mills three cards. Storm copies it for each spell cast before it this turn.

Flusterstorm MTG proxy card

Flusterstorm
Storm. Counter target instant or sorcery spell unless its controller pays {1}.

Cyclonic Rift MTG proxy card

Cyclonic Rift
Return target nonland permanent you don't control to its owner's hand, or overload it to return every nonland permanent you don't control.

Force of Will MTG proxy card

Force of Will
You may pay 1 life and exile a blue card from your hand instead of paying its mana cost. Counter target spell.

Black

Dismember MTG proxy card

Dismember
Target creature gets -5/-5 until end of turn. Thanks to Phyrexian mana, it can be cast for {1} and 4 life in almost any deck.

Culling the Weak MTG proxy card

Culling the Weak
Sacrifice a creature to add {B}{B}{B}{B} off a single black mana.

Ad Nauseam MTG proxy card

Ad Nauseam
Reveal the top card of your library, put it into your hand, and lose life equal to its mana value. You may repeat the process any number of times.

Vampiric Tutor MTG proxy card

Vampiric Tutor
Search your library for any card, shuffle, put that card on top, then lose 2 life.

Living End MTG proxy card

Living End
Suspend it, then each player exiles all creature cards from their graveyard, sacrifices all creatures they control, and returns the exiled creatures to the battlefield.

Red

Crackle with Power MTG proxy card

Crackle with Power
Deals five times X damage to each of up to X targets — the kind of X-spell that turns huge mana into a table-ending burst.

Pyretic Ritual MTG proxy card

Pyretic Ritual
A two-mana ritual that gives you three red mana back, turning {1}{R} into {R}{R}{R}.

Jeska's Will MTG proxy card

Jeska's Will
Add red mana equal to the number of cards in target opponent's hand, or exile your top three cards and play them this turn — choose both if you control your commander.

Green

Berserk MTG proxy card

Berserk
Before combat damage, double a creature's power and give it trample — it just won't survive the turn if it attacked.

Triumph of the Hordes MTG proxy card

Triumph of the Hordes
Your whole team gets +1/+1, trample and infect until end of turn — a classic alternate-win-condition finisher.

Veil of Summer MTG proxy card

Veil of Summer
For {G}, your spells can't be countered this turn, and you and your permanents gain hexproof from blue and black. Draw a card if an opponent has cast a blue or black spell this turn.

Awaken the Woods MTG proxy card

Awaken the Woods
Create a swarm of 1/1 green Forest Dryad land creature tokens.

Crop Rotation MTG proxy card

Crop Rotation
As an additional cost, sacrifice a land. Search your library for any land card and put it straight onto the battlefield.

Responsible Proxy Use

As with every proxy card, transparency matters. These proxies should be used for casual play, deck testing, collection, or display — not to deceive players, stores, marketplaces, collectors, tournament organisers, or authentication services.

If a proxy card is ever traded, sold, gifted, or otherwise transferred to another person, its unofficial nature must be clearly disclosed. High-quality proxies are at their best when they make casual games and collections more accessible, not when they are misrepresented as original cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Silver Scroll Foil?

Silver Scroll Foil is the premium finish on the Japanese alternate-art Mystical Archive cards from Secrets of Strixhaven — a bright metallic shimmer over artwork and a frame redrawn in the Japanese Mystical Archive style. It appears on Japanese Mystical Archive cards found in Collector Boosters.

Is this the same Mystical Archive from the original Strixhaven set in 2021?

No, though it follows the same idea. Strixhaven: School of Mages had its own Mystical Archive in 2021, while Secrets of Strixhaven brought the concept back in 2026 with a new, separate sixty-five-card Archive. The cards on this page are from the 2026 version.

Are these the same cards played in Legacy, Vintage, and Commander?

Yes, in casual games where your playgroup accepts proxies. Each proxy represents the same card name, mana cost, type line, rules text and gameplay role as the original version. Only the art, frame and foiling differ between printings.

Can I use these in organised play?

No. Proxy cards are intended for casual play, deck testing, collection, and display, not sanctioned or official tournaments. Always check with your playgroup, store, or event organiser before using proxies.

Do these cost more than a regular proxy here?

No. Every version on this page costs exactly the same as a plain-art proxy of the same card — we do not charge extra for a fancier treatment, unlike the secondary market for the real cards.
